>> Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (Jn 3:5) <<

) -->

John (the Baptist) said he was told to baptize the Israelites with water and to let them know him who would baptize them with the Holy Spirit (Jn 1:29-34). Coming to John to be baptized by him, people asked him if he was the Messiah God had promised. John answered that he was not the Messiah but just a man who was to introduce the bride (Israelites) to the bridegroom (the Messiah who God had promised to send). God let John see the Holy Spirit descending like a dove upon Jesus who came to him to be baptized, and John declared to people that Jesus was the promised Messiah.

) -->

In Jn 3, Nicodemus came to Jesus and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God." Jesus answered him, "Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."

) -->

By 'water' and 'the Spirit' mentioned to Nicodemus, Jesus confirmed what John the Baptist had attested about Jesus.

) -->

In this whole context, ...

) -->

'Being born again by water' means 'accepting as truth the testimony of John who baptized people with water'. According to John, Jesus is 'the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world', 'the one who baptizes people with the Spirit', 'the one whose status is exceedingly high', and 'the Messiah (the Savior) whom God promised his people to send'. If you accept this testimony as truth, you've achieved the first qualification to enter the kingdom of God. This is a process to be a member of the church whose head is Jesus after living a secular man in the world. This process is absolutely necessary to enter the heaven. This can be defined as the nominal rebirth, and is achieved by the baptism of the church.

) -->

'Being born again by the Spirit' is the process in which a man, after being baptized in the name of Jesus, receives the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38) to be a man of Holy Spirit. Here, he who gives the Holy Spirit, that is, he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit is Jesus (Jn 20:22). He who is born again by Holy Spirit has undergone the qualitative change of self after the nominal rebirth. A man born again by the Spirit is he who is actually living as Jesus' bride and God's son.

Jesus, by saying that man must be born of water and the Spirit to enter the heaven, teaches us that both the nominal rebirth and the actual rebirth are indispensable. We must know that the salvation can be found only in the church that received the exclusive right to baptize people from God, and that we must be led by the Holy Spirit after we were baptized to became a Christian.

) -->

Therefore the saying of Jesus 'Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God' means 'one can enter the kingdom of God if he accepts as truth the gospel preached by men of God about Jesus, believes in Jesus as the Savior, is baptized in the name of Jesus, becomes a Christian, and lives a Christian life led by the Holy Spirit.'

>> Jesus said to him, “I am the say, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me. (Jn 14:6) <<
