If you lay up treasure in the temple of God, you could be dispossessed of it by force.

>> So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, "I am your servant and your son. Come up, and rescue me from the hand of the king of Syria and from the hand of the king of Israel, who are attacking me." Ahaz also took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the Lord and in the treasures of the king's house, and sent a present to the king of Assyria. (2 Kings 16:7-8) <<

The king and the priest are servants of God, and the purpose of their life is not to fill their bellies but to take good care of the people on behalf of God. There must be among people those who suffer destitution, and to whom the national tax and the temple tax would be a great burden. In this situation, it would not be right in the sight of God for the king and the priest to lay up the money collected from the people in the storage. They should not store it up but spend it for the poor people. A lot of silver and gold does not glorify the God when it was stored up in the safes of the king and the priest though there are a lot of poor people. So God puts away those things he doesn't want to see.
