The wicked deny that the Almighty sees their deeds and dare to sin. "No one is watching us, so kill others, commit adultery, and steal anything whenever we get the chance." They love the dark night, because no one watch them.
How did God judge these wicked people? God brought Abraham's nephew Lot out of Sodom and helped him escape far from there, then destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. The time limit for Lot to escape was 'before sunrise'. Escaping with his two daughters, Lot asked the angels of God to allow him to go into a small city (Zoar), and the angels let him escape to the city, saying, "We'll not destroy that city." So, the people of Zoar saved their lives thanks to Lot and his two daughters.
The sun rose when Lot entered Zoar, and God rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, destroying all of the inhabitants. So the people of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, without even waking up, that is, without knowing who killed them. If God had rained fire of brimstone on them by day, they might have known who killed them for it was surely a supernatural miracle, therefore, some might have died uttering blasphemous words to God. However, they must have died even without screaming, for they died while sleeping in the darkness.
That's the fate of the wicked, the children of darkness. They, while believing no one sees their deeds, die vainly without knowing who punished them. Wicked people sin in darkness and die in darkness.
But Abraham, a righteous man, had already known very well why the people of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed. The same happens today. The righteous man living next door to a wicked man knows clearly why the wicked man was punished and who judged him. But the wicked man himself can never know why and by whom. He thinks he was just unlucky.
The righteous will be sorry to see the destruction of evil people, like Abraham. At the same time, the righteous realize many things when they look at the destruction of the wicked. They realize that it is good for them not to sin like the wicked. And they thank God when he leads them in the paths of righteousness, and sometimes chastises them. They are confident that God will reward them if they live a righteous life in God. God will certainly reward them for good deeds, because he punishes the evil deeds of the wicked. So, the righteous thinks it's their blessing not to live among the wicked, but to live in God and in doing his will. This gives them indescribable peace and joy.
>> Do not be mismated with unbelievers. For what partnership have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (2 Cor 6:14-16)" <<
>> Once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light. (Eph 5:8) <<
>> Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (Jn 8:12) <<
