God told Abraham and Jacob that their descendants would live a slave live in Egypt for about 400 years. These words might be known to the Israelites who went down to Egypt. God told their future hardship to them so that he might let them know that it happened under God's plan, and might prevent them from collapsing or going astray, when the hardship came.
God tells the saints of future trials in one way or another. One of the ways is an indication by dream. If you were surprised at a fierce beast, a fierce villain, or a dangerous situation in your dream, and if you met a great trial on that very day, you may think that it is a trial according to God's plan, and that it is a problem God will help you solve.
Let me tell you my case. One day, I had a dream at dawn, I heard a gospel song, "Thanks for the roses by the wayside, thanks for the thorns their stems contain." And a Christian gave me the CD with that song. I woke and thought, 'What is this?' A few days later, I had a dream at dawn. I was walking on a road. I felt something behind me. I turned around, and a huge wild boar with huge fangs was growling at me. I was startled. The terrible beast kept following me and threatening me, but didn't do me harm. I went further, and the beast followed me no more. And I saw a small clean stream before me. I woke. On that day, a long formidable ordeal I can hardly bear came upon me. But, recalling the two dreams, I thought the hardship came to me according to God's plan, and that therefore I could expect a good result. One day, I had a dream at dawn. I was on the top of an icy cliff hundreds of meters high. I was shuddering for fear. On that day, too, I met an overwhelming ordeal. But I overcame it also without being frustrated, knowing that God had informed me of it in advance.
The trials that God lets you know in advance will surely cease at God's time, leaving good results to you. God is trustworthy.
