Forgiveness of sins is not granted, or eternal life received, except in the Church of Christ.

그리스도의 교회에서가 아니면 죄 용서도 없고 영생 획득도 없습니다.

 

The sins of those who despise the gospel of Christ will be retained.

그리스도의 복음을 멸시하는 자들의 죄는 용서받지 못한 채로 있을 것입니다.

 

Those who will not hear the Church in these matters are to be held as Gentiles and publicans, separated from the fellowship of Christ (cf. Matt. 18:15-18).

이런 문제와 관련하여 교회의 말을 듣지 않는 자들은, 그리스도와의 관계가 단절된 이방인이나 세리로 간주될 것입니다. (마18:15-18). (이 블로그 동토마햇빛교회도 엄연히 하나님의 뜻에 따라 세워진 교회이므로, 이 교회에서 선포된 말씀을 우습게보고 불순종하면 안 됩니다.)

 

What comes next, that "his people will beat their swords into plowshares," etc., is said of those who have truly accepted the Kingdom of Christ, for they deny themselves and seek not their own but only what contributes to the salvation of their neighbor.

그 다음 말씀, 곧 “그의 백성이 자신들의 칼을 두들겨 보습을 만들 것이다” 등은 그리스도의 나라를 진정으로 수용한 자들에 대해 말하고 있습니다. 그들이 자신들을 부인하고, 자신들의 유익을 추구하지 아니하며, 오직 자신들의 이웃의 구원에 기여하는 것만을 추구하기 때문입니다.

 

He is the Spirit of wisdom, i.e., the one who gives a firm cognition of God and of his works and judgments.

그분께서는 지혜의 성령, 즉 하나님과 >그분의 사역과 심판(판단)들<에 대한 확고한 지식(인식)을 주시는 분이십니다.

 

Faith shows its power through love, which always manages to benefit men, and to be injurious to no one (I Cor. 13:5).

믿음은 항상 사랑으로 자신의 능력을 드러냅니다. 사랑은 항상 사람들에게 유익을 주고, 아무에게도 해를 끼치지 않습니다(고전13:5).

 

It must be realized that those who wish the Kingdom of Christ to be restored among us ought to make it a primary concern that there be in the individual churches apt and faithful teachers to communicate richly to every baptized person a true knowledge of the Lord that is, a firm faith in Christ, the only thing by which we live and are saved. They should do this both by sermons and explanations of Holy Scripture, by instructions of the unlearned, and by private admonitions and testimonies.

우리가 깨달아야 할 것은 이것입니다. 우리 가운데 그리스도의 나라가 회복되기를 바라는 자들은 주된 관심을 >각 교회에 ‘주님에 대한 참된 지식, 즉 우리가 살고 구원받는 유일한 수단인, 그리스도에 대한 확고한 믿음’을 모든 세례 받은 자들에게 풍족히 전해 줄 수 있는 유능하고 신실한 교사들을 확보하는< 데에 둬야 한다는 것입니다. 교사들은 성경의 설교와 설명으로, 배우지 못한 자들에 대한 교육과 개인적 훈계와 증거(증언)로 이 일을 해야 합니다.

 

Our righteousness is faith, by which we believe that we have a gracious God through Christ the Lord.

우리의 의(義)는 신앙입니다. 이 신앙으로 우리는 >우리가 주(主) 그리스도를 통해 은혜로우신 하나님을 대함<을 믿습니다.

 

Here that property of the Kingdom of Christ is commended to us by which every church of Christ ought so to be a bearer of the good news that in every congregation of the saints the word of the gospel will sound constantly, with very great confidence and ardent zeal.

여기서 우리에게 그리스도의 나라의 그러한 특징(사40:9)이 권해집니다. 그 특징에 따라 모든 그리스도의 교회들이 복음의 담지자(bearer : 소유자, 책임자)가 되어 모든 성도의 회중 가운데 복음의 말씀이 항상, 확신 있게, 뜨거운 열정으로 선포되어야 합니다.

 

By these words we are taught that Christ alone implants us in his Kingdom, once we have been rescued by his might from the captivity and servitude of Satan, and he alone accomplishes the work of our salvation.

이 말씀(사40:10)에서 우리는 ‘>우리가 그리스도의 능력으로 사탄의 포로와 노예 상태에서 해방되어< 오직 그분께서만 우리를 그분의 나라의 일원(一員)이 되게 하시고, 오직 그분께서만 우리의 구원 사역을 이룩하신다’는 것을 배웁니다.

 

As sheep we ought to know and follow the voice of our shepherd (John 10:3-4, 27), and to have no confidence in ourselves or in ay other creature.

우리는 양(羊)으로서 우리의 목자의 음성을 알고 따라야 하고(요10:3-4, 27), 우리 자신이나 다른 피조물을 신뢰해서는 안 됩니다.

 

We cannot know or arrange for ourselves anything at all that pertains to our salvation, and we are the certain prey of ravenous wolves unless our King and Good Shepherd himself introduces us to his sheepfolds, the churches, and in these cares for and feeds us.

우리는 우리의 구원과 관련된 그 어떤 것도 알 수 없고, 스스로 그것을 준비할 수도 없으며, >우리의 왕이시고 선한 목자이신 분께서 친히 우리를 그분의 양(羊)우리(fold), 즉 교회에 넣으시고 그 안에서 우리를 돌보시고 먹이시지 않으신다면< 우리는 십중팔구 굶주린 늑대의 먹이가 될 것입니다.

 

The Father wills all the saving of the elect in the whole world to be dispensed through him, by his death and resurrection, with wonderful success among all peoples.

성부 하나님께서는 온 세상에서 선택된 자들의 모든 구원이 그분(그리스도)를 통해, 그분의 죽음과 부활을 통해, 모든 민족들 가운데 대단히 성공적으로 시행되기를 뜻하셨습니다.

 

He calls him "righteous," because he alone has fulfilled the law of God and has not committed any sin; hence he has been appointed mediator between God and us and made the author of our justification.

그분(성부 하나님)께서는 그분(성자 하나님)을 “의롭다” 하셨는데, 이는 오직 그분(성자)께서만 하나님의 법을 지키셨고 죄를 범치 않으셨기 때문입니다. 그리하여 그분(성자)께서는 하나님과 인간의 중보자가 되셨고, 우리의 의(義)의 장본인이 되셨습니다.

 

Hence, therefore, let us note it is characteristic of our King that "when we were his enemies, he underwent death for us," to restore us to the grace of his Father and make us blessed partakers of his Kingdom (Rom. 5:8-10). Accordingly, let us also here find confirmation of that true doctrine of our justification, namely, that doctrine which consists for us only of faith in Christ.

그러므로 우리가 주목해야 할 >우리의 왕의 특징<은 이것입니다. 우리가 그분의 원수였을 때 그분께서는 >우리가 그분의 아버지의 은혜를 다시 받고, 그분의 나라의 행복한 참여자가 되게 하시려고< 우리를 위하여 죽으셨습니다. 따라서 우리는 또한 여기서 우리의 의(義)에 관한 이 참된 교리, 즉 >우리에게는 그리스도에 대한 믿음만으로 구성된< 이 교리를 확인합시다.

 

The true Church of Christ cannot be hidden, wherever it is; for it is a "a city set on a mountain" (Matt. 5:14); and "the Kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power" (I Cor. 4:20).

참된 그리스도의 교회는, 그것이 어디 있든지 간에, 숨겨질 수 없습니다. 그것은 “산 위의 마을이고(마5:14), 하나님의 나라는 말에 있지 않고 능력에 있기” 때문입니다(고전4:20).

 

This too is characteristic of the Kingdom of Christ, that those who are truly its citizens are all likewise true priests of God, i.e., by the confession of their lips and of their whole life they announce "his virtues, who has called them from darkness into his marvelous light" (I Peter. 2:9).

이것 또한 그리스도의 나라의 특징입니다: 그 나라의 참된 백성인 자들은 모두 동일하게 참된 하나님의 제사장들입니다. 즉 그들의 입의 고백과 전체 삶으로 그들은 “그들을 어둠에서 불러내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 분의 덕”을 기립니다(벧전2:9).
