>> 1 All the congregation of the people of Israel moved on from the wilderness of Sin by stages, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped at Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 Therefore the people found fault with Moses, and said, “Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you find fault with me: Why do you put the Lord to the proof?” 3 But the people thirsted there for water, and the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thrist?” (Ex 17:1-3) <<

('Putting the Lord to the proof' in English version of the Bible, and '하나님을 시험함(testing God)' in Korean version. I think both have the same meaning.)

A wife who is not satisfied with her husband's salary and does not regard his hard work constantly tells him, "Please, please bring in more money. We have two children, and I get in panic whenever I think of their education and marriage. Finish dinner quickly, and get out and drive others' cars part-time to get money!" She nags like that every day. To the man whose wife is such a virago, the home is a hell itself, and he is extremely distressed and can't even breathe when he sees her face.

That woman would never cease nagging until she has extra money about 500 million won at the bank. And then she will smile at him. A faithful Christian woman would not worry about tomorrow and attack her husband like that if they have some bread to eat today and a place to sleep in today. Husband's duty to the children is to support them until they have grown up. Korean wives should not lay infinite duty about children's >education until college< and marriage on their husbands. When they have grown up, they are supposed to be independent.

Moses warned the Israelites, who were weeping, murmuring and making all kinds of complaints in the wilderness, not to test God. History says the people of Israel have never given God a test question. Here, the test simply means 'nagging (and complaining)'.

When do God's people test God? It is when they are nagging at him. They nag at him, not satisfied with their life that is in God's grace, not thanking him, but weeping because of the worries about future, and crying loud, "Give me some more money!", at everyday prayer time.
